How long is the reservation held?

It depends on the airline and above all on the departure date: from about 15 minutes to several weeks, sometimes a month. For a flight tomorrow, do not expect it to last even a day; for a flight two months away, it may stay for several weeks. These are likelihoods, not promises: the airline decides. That is why we recommend ordering it shortly before you need it.

Can I use a sample ticket instead?

A generated sample has no real booking behind it. It is fine for a demo or a mock-up (try our free flight ticket generator or a dummy ticket), but an airline agent who checks the code will not find it. For check-in or immigration use a verifiable reservation.
